 Performantele romanilor au fost mai degraba rezultate exceptionale ale unor indivizi, mai mult decat consecinte programatice si de sistem. Arta plastica in special ne scoate cu mandrie in lume datorita curajului si tenacitatii unor pictori care isi spun “Si eu pot” si se arunca in lume. E cu atat mai mare motivul de mandrie cand occidentul ne oglindeste inapoi succesul unor astfel de temerari.

LONDON, United Kingdom — Adrian Ghenie, a master of dark, surrealist painting, has an east London studio flooded with light from large windows and scattered with bright tubes of paint. In fact the Transylvanian artist is pretty jolly himself. And why wouldn’t he be? A darling of the international art scene, Ghenie now has a solo exhibition in Ghent, Belgium and more in the works.
Ghenie isn’t the only Romanian hitting the global marquee. Since the mid-1990s, compatriots including Victor Man, Ioana Nemes and Ciprian Muresan have burst onto the art scene. They are matched by colleagues in film, music and design.
“Talent exists everywhere but you also have to meet the right people who will tell you the right things and give you the right support,” Ghenie said. “That is when the planets align.”…

E de mentionat ca toti acesti artisti plastici fac parte din generatia tanara de 30-40 de ani. Si reamintesc ca o artista si mai tanara a ales sa plonjeze in sfera artistica londoneza. Otilia Cadar despre care am scris aici.

Si mai e de notat ca nu numai in partea de creatie romanii isi fac incet incet intrarea. In New York am gasit curatori romani (romance ar fi mai corect 🙂 si la galerii private, si la Muzeul de Arta Moderna. In plus, initiative precum cea a Anei Cristea, care si-a deschis propria galerie in cel mai competitiv mediu artistic din lume, nu poate fi decat salutara. Toate aceste lucruri reprezinta trepte pe care putem pasi pentru a scoate capul in lume.
